National Pain Education Summit - You're invited!

1st October 2026 | Melbourne

The Faculty of Pain Medicine (ANZCA) invites ANZAPHE members to attend the National Pain Education Summit: From Standards to Practice - Building Australia's Pain Education Capability, to be held in Melbourne from 9.00am to 3.15pm on Thursday 1 October 2026.

The Summit will bring together leaders involved in designing, delivering, evaluating, accrediting and improving health practitioner education to accelerate implementation of the “Australian Standards for Health Practitioner Pain Management Education” (“the standards”).

The program will on focus on practical approaches to embedding the standards across a range of settings including university and vocational education, clinical supervision, continuing professional development and health service education.

Delivered in person, the Summit is designed to encourage meaningful discussion, collaboration and implementation planning across the health, education and accreditation sectors.

Attendance is free, and particularly welcome those with responsibility for, or a key role in, education, training, accreditation, workforce development, curriculum design or related policy areas.

AIPPEN 2026 IPE Session 3: Speaking Up In Healthcare – designing an interprofessional speaking up capability framework

Communicating innovative ideas, suggesting changes to practice, identifying mistakes we have made, and even highlighting errors others have made, are all complex interprofessional communication acts. How prepared are the healthcare students you work with to communicate these messages? What more could be done to collaboratively create a healthy speaking up culture?

Philippa welcomes you to learn about key findings from her doctoral study on speaking up among allied health new graduates and to share speaking up activities you are engaged in. You are invited to join other AIPPEN and ANZAHPE members in co-creating a healthy speaking up curriculum.

About our Presenter:

Dr Philippa Friary is the Director of Clinical Education for the Masters in Speech Language Therapy Practice programme at The University of Auckland. Her education and healthcare leadership experience and international committee roles have taught her the importance of speaking up for the communities we work with, our teams, and ourselves to ensure safe, high-quality care.

We anticipate that you will leave with at least one new idea to explore, and widen your network of colleagues with interests in interprofessional education.

University of Otago, Christchurch Simulation Instructor Workshop

10th - 12th November, 2026 | Christchurch, New Zealand

This three day workshop is open to health professionals with an interest in simulation-based education.

Focus and format of the workshop

The workshop includes active participation and practise of all components of simulation-based education as well as presentations and discussions of both theory and practice, including:

Educational underpinnings of simulation-based education
Principles and practice of scenario writing
Best practice in SBE including focus on safety approaches to debriefing
Orientation to the human simulators SimMan3G Plus / SimJunior / SimBaby and the simulation environment
Developing and delivering/running a scenario
Participating in scenarios
Reviewing scenario development and delivery practice
Debriefing a scenario
Reviewing debriefing practice (debriefing the debrief)
