Join us for an engaging online session exploring how a new regional medical school is building a diverse and culturally responsive Simulated Patient (SP) program. We'll share our experience recruiting First Nations SPs, discuss the role of Community in the Curriculum, and reflect on the opportunities, challenges, and lessons learned in shaping a program that supports culturally safe healthcare education.

ABOUT OUR PRESENTER:

Associate Professor Sufyan Akram is the medical program director at CDU Menzies Medical Program.

Sufyan completed his medical qualification and basic medical training before pursuing his PhD at the Young Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. Since completing his PhD in 2005, he has worked in various academic roles in universities around the globe. He has been at CDU since 2018 and has served in various roles in the Faculty of Health, advocating for innovation in learning and teaching. He has been involved extensively in curriculum development and student engagement. Sufyan has been working on the new CDU Menzies Medical Program over the past few years. He has collaborated actively with researchers in several other disciplines and has published many peer-reviewed articles and contributed to textbooks. Outside of work, Sufyan can be found playing cricket with his kids, may it be in the physical world or virtual.
