END-OF-LIFE ESSENTIALS
Supporting health professionals to provide excellence in end-of-life care
End-of-Life Essentials is a Commonwealth funded initiative, operating out of Flinders University. This program is specifically tailored for health care professionals with limited to no experience in specialist palliative care. The project offers free peer-reviewed online education modules on delivering end-of-life care for clinicians working in acute hospitals.
End-of-Life Essentials recognises that health professionals, whether in medicine, nursing, or allied health, want to provide quality end-of-life care.
Their new, free ‘Orientation to End-of-Life Care’ education modules assist undergraduate students, new staff, and experienced practitioners working across Australia hospitals to gain valuable insights into this vital area of practice.
Whether you’re teaching future clinicians or inducting new team members, these 3 time-efficient modules support meaningful, compassionate care in every setting.
The modules include:
1. Recognising Dying - Understand how to recognise when a patient is approaching end of life, common trajectories and the patient’s perspective of dying.
2. Imminent Death - Identify the signs of imminent death and learn how to support patients and families with compassionate clinical care.
3. Communication and Decision-Making – Improve how to communicate and collaborate with patients, families, and your broader healthcare team.
Bringing clarity and confidence to delivering patient-centred end-of-life care.
