      Presenter: Christie van Diggele

Christie van Diggele will share her findings from interviews with faculty, following the introduction of a new interprofessional learning curriculum at The University of Sydney. Using the lens of social capital theory, we will discuss ways to collectively shape a positive attitude towards IPE within our own organisations, and build on existing strengths.

      About our presenter:

Christie van Diggele, PhD, SFHEA, MEd, BEd is a Lecturer in Academic Professional Development at The University of Sydney Business School. Prior to this, she worked as the Interprofessional Learning Lead, Faculty of Medicine and Health, The University of Sydney. In 2024, Christie received a PhD (USyd) for her thesis titled: ‘Integrating interprofessional learning into curricula.’

      Article: https://fohpe.org/FoHPE/article/view/716

We anticipate that you will leave with at least one new idea to explore, and widen your network of colleagues with interests in interprofessional education.

      International Medical Graduate Conference

September 18-19, 2025 | State Library of Victoria, Melbourne and Online

Working together to build a strong, safe and supported international medical graduate workforce

We are excited to announce that the Australian Medical Council (AMC) will be hosting the International Medical Graduate Conference 2025!

This year’s International Medical Graduate Conference 2025 will be a dynamic and pivotal event focused on strengthening Australia’s international medical workforce through collaboration and shared insights.

      • Australia relies on international medical graduates to ensure quality healthcare for all communities.
      • International medical graduates make up one-third of the Australian medical workforce, and bring diverse skills, knowledge, and experiences that enhance healthcare delivery across urban, rural, and remote settings.

Yet, the journey for these highly skilled professionals to practice medicine in Australia is often complex, time-consuming, and costly. Collaborative cross-sectorial partnerships are critical for driving meaningful change across the system.

The upcoming International Medical Graduate Conference 2025, organised by the Australian Medical Council, will bring together international medical graduates and stakeholders involved in assessment, training, support, supervision, registration and employment to foster collaborative partnerships to support international medical graduates in their journeys.

An exciting and varied program aligned to the three themes of a Stronger, Safer and more Supported will include:

      • Oral presentations
      • Poster presentations (10 minutes: 7 minutes to present + 3 minutes for discussion)
      • Rounds Reimagined (5 minutes: creative expression through art, poetry, music, etc.)
      • Workshop (60 minutes: skills-based training or interactive discussions)
      • Hack-a-thon (120 minutes: collaborative problem-solving session)
      • Yarning sessions

      The conference will also host

      • a vibrant exhibition space with information booths
      • a networking event
      • tours of the new AMC test centre

Join us in September 2025 (either in person or view the session online post-event ) to connect, share ideas and insights, and work together to build a stronger, safer and more supported international medical graduate workforce.

        CAPHIA HACKATHON

Theme: Reducing vaping harms in young people

November 4-6, 2025 | Gadigal Land, The School of Public Health, University of Technology Sydney

This event brings together current and future leaders to reduce vaping harms in young people by leveraging public health approaches with design thinking principles.

Vaping harms was chosen as our theme because this issue disproportionately affects our youth. Young people are being targeted by bad commercial actors who profit at the expense of the health of our future leaders.

        Hackathon Challenges:

Public Health student teams will choose one of the following challenges to collaboratively investigate, analyse and build a solution to contribute to reducing vaping harms in young people.

              END-OF-LIFE ESSENTIALS

Supporting health professionals to provide excellence in end-of-life care

End-of-Life Essentials is a Commonwealth funded initiative, operating out of Flinders University. This program is specifically tailored for health care professionals with limited to no experience in specialist palliative care. The project offers free peer-reviewed online education modules on delivering end-of-life care for clinicians working in acute hospitals.

End-of-Life Essentials recognises that health professionals, whether in medicine, nursing, or allied health, want to provide quality end-of-life care.

Their new, free ‘Orientation to End-of-Life Care’ education modules assist undergraduate students, new staff, and experienced practitioners working across Australia hospitals to gain valuable insights into this vital area of practice.

Whether you’re teaching future clinicians or inducting new team members, these 3 time-efficient modules support meaningful, compassionate care in every setting.

              The modules include:

              1. Recognising Dying - Understand how to recognise when a patient is approaching end of life, common trajectories and the patient’s perspective of dying.

              2. Imminent Death - Identify the signs of imminent death and learn how to support patients and families with compassionate clinical care.

              3. Communication and Decision-Making – Improve how to communicate and collaborate with patients, families, and your broader healthcare team.

Bringing clarity and confidence to delivering patient-centred end-of-life care.
