This interactive masterclass provides an opportunity for both service provider and university staff involved in planning and supporting student placements to explore opportunities for co-designing innovative student placements within their workplace that generate mutual benefit. By the end of the Masterclass. participants will have a toolkit of evidence-based strategies to co-design student placement models that enhance service provision whilst simultaneously providing authentic student engagement in innovative service delivery.
ABOUT OUR PRESENTERS:
Associate Professor Gillian Nisbet (PhD, MMEd, Dip Nutr, BSc(Hons)
Gillian Nisbet is Director of Partnerships and Placements within the School of Health Sciences at the University of Sydney. Before entering academia, a clinical background working as a dietitian fuelled her passion in understanding and improving allied health students’ learning whilst participating in workplace activities. Gillian’s research focusses on exploring approaches to effectively integrating students into healthcare services to positively contribute to service delivery, patient outcomes, and student learning. This work extends her earlier research investigating the informal interprofessional learning opportunities within the workplace.
Associate Professor Merrolee Penman (EdD, MA(Educ), DipTeachTert, PGDipHlthSc(OT), DipOT, SFHEA)
Merrolee Penman is a Teaching/Research Academic at Curtin School of Health Sciences, coordinating and teaching into the Master of Occupational Therapy. Merrolee’s expertise draws from almost 15 years in roles supporting clinical educators and students in the placement components of both undergraduate and graduate entry masters degrees across Australia, New Zealand and Scotland. Merrolee’s research focuses on the design of placements to enable positive outcomes for students, educators and service users. How we conceptualise placements and how this drives placement design is her current research focus.
