Meet one of our newest members, Chrish Fernando.

I am a Senior Professional Practice Fellow at the University of Otago and a current candidate in the Master of Health Professions Education at the University of Western Australia, where my research focuses on student wellbeing and curriculum-embedded mental health support. My background spans clinical oral health practice, health education and an evolving interest in how educational environments can better nurture student resilience, belonging, and holistic wellbeing.

I first learned about ANZAHPE through colleagues in the health professions education space who spoke highly of the community, its collegiality, and its commitment to advancing evidence-informed educational practice. After exploring the organisation’s resources and attending ANZAHPE events, I knew it was a place where my interests in curriculum design, student support, and innovative assessment practice could grow.

Becoming an ANZAHPE member as a recent graduate in my profession means being part of a network of educators who genuinely value collaboration and the development of compassionate, high-quality health education. I joined to engage with like-minded professionals, learn from leaders across disciplines (and from within my own), and contribute to conversations that shape the future of dental education—particularly in linking oral health education with mental health and wellbeing. I am excited to continue developing as an educator within this inspiring community and hopefully inspire others to join this effort.
