Meet one of our newest members, Tegan Stettaford.
Tegan is a Lecturer in Health Behaviour Change - Exercise and Sport Psychology in the School of Health Sciences at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). She has an educational background in Psychology; Tegan’s PhD (conferred April 2026, from the University of Newcastle) involved a Cluster RCT to improve lifestyle risk factors (tobacco smoking, poor nutrition, alcohol overconsumption, physical inactivity, and overweight/obesity) amongst community mental health service clients via the implementation of a specialist preventive care clinician model.
During her PhD studies, Tegan was actively employed in various roles including as an Associate Lecturer across 3 schools at the University of Newcastle and as a Unit Coordinator at Victoria University Online. This work quickly became something she thoroughly enjoyed, as a life-long learner herself. She actively pursued opportunities in teaching throughout her PhD studies. Since finishing her PhD, and commencing an Education-focussed academic position as UNSW, she has been working to develop a research niche for herself in Higher Education Research. Through the support of her colleagues, she was introduced to ANZAHPE as a great community to support her ECR development in this space.
Tegan was recently awarded a small grant from UNSW to attend the 2026 ANZAHPE conference, to build up her network and learn more about the research presently being conducted in this space. Her research interests presently revolve around Health Behaviour Change as well as student well-being. She hopes to refine her research interests through collaboration with ANZAHPE Members.
