An anti-colonial discussion of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

PHAA DEI SIG

To celebrate the Global Public Health Week 7-11 April, which topic is Redefining Equity: Decolonizing Public Health for a Healthier World, please join us in a webinar to discuss An anti-colonial discussion of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, hosted by the PHAA Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Special Interest Group. Our speaker will be Associate Professor Quah Ee Ling from Western Sydney University.

Associate Professor Quah Ee Ling is a fire dragon feminist, Singaporean of Chinese-Hokkien and Indonesian-Peranakan heritage. Ee Ling insists on the correct order of her name - surname (Quah) first followed by given name (Ee Ling). She developed fire dragon feminism to blow flames at colonial and racial capitalist structures and build solidarities for more just and sustainable futures.

Ee Ling is the author of Fire Dragon Feminism: Asian Migrant Women's tales of migration, coloniality and racial capitalism (Bloomsbury 2025), Transnational Divorce: Understanding Intimacies and Inequalities from Singapore (Routledge 2020) and Perspectives on Marital Dissolution: Divorce Biographies in Singapore (Springer 2015). Her research on race, gender, sexuality and migration has also appeared in Journal of Ethnic & Migration Studies; Journal of Intercultural Studies; Gender, Work and Organisation; Journal of Family Issues; Emotion, Space and Society; Journal of Sociology; Australian Feminist Studies; Marriage & Family Review; and Sydney Review of Books. She is an editorial management board member of Emotions and Society (Bristol University Press). At Western Sydney University, Ee Ling is the Deputy Academic Lead of WSU Science in Australia Gender Equity (SAGE), and a member of Institute for Culture & Society, Writing & Society Research Centre, and Sexualities & Genders Research.
