Aim:
The Supporting Neurodivergence in HPE Special Interest Group (SIG) is for health professional educators who are members of ANZAHPE involved in health-related learning and/or related workplace settings. It aims to create a collaborative space to identify, develop, and share evidence-based approaches for supporting neurodivergent learners, educators and practitioners in HPE.
Activities:
Key activities in the next 12 months will include:
I. Creating a collaborative, co-designed online space where members can access a repository of resources and share current/proposed projects;
II. Holding quarterly online meetings which consider differences in the strengths, skills and support needs of SIG members and the HPE community;
III. Submitting an annual article for the ANZAHPE newsletter related to the aim, purpose and related activities of the SIG and/or its’ members
IV. Hosting an annual meeting and/or networking event at the ANZAHPE conference
Advancing ANZAPHE priorities:
The Supporting Neurodivergence in HPE Special Interest Group (SIG) is strongly aligned with ANZAHPE’s values of Quality, Respect, and Collaboration. This SIG will advance ANZAHPE's priorities through:
I. Nurturing neurodivergent community members by creating an inclusive and shared learning environment that promotes a sense of belonging;
II. Establishing opportunities for networking and collaboration in alignment with the neurodiversity paradigm and diverse participation needs, where innovative educational approaches and research can be created and shared to advance this field;
III. Facilitating scholarly discourse and advocacy to enable neurodivergent learners, clinicians, and educators to reach their full potential and providing members with opportunities that enable career success and support experiences of thriving;
IV. Promoting dissemination of scholarly outputs related to neurodivergence in HPE, including through ANZAHPE conferences and peer-reviewed publications (such as FoHPE); and
V. Enabling growth and sustainability in HPE by anticipating and adapting to the changing needs of an increasingly diverse HPE workforce and learner population.
